Microcrystalline wax, a white amorphous non-crystalline solid wax, mainly composed of branched saturated hydrocarbons of C1-70, containing a small amount of cyclic, straight-chain hydrocarbons, odorless and tasteless. Insoluble in ethanol, slightly soluble in hot, soluble in benzene, chloroform, ether, etc.; miscible with various mineral waxes, vegetable waxes and heated fatty oils. It is mainly from the residue after petroleum fractionation by a refining process. Used as a polishing agent for ointment products, rust inhibitor, carbon paper, candles, packaging imgnation and fruit coating; also used in cosmetics, colored pencils, shoe polish, various polishing waxes, etc.
